WWII beginnings
WWII started mostly because of the German Nazi military. Germany at 1939 had the most powerful military in all of Europe right above the Soviet Union. 1939 Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler signed became a pact. They had the most powerful militaries in the continent and wanted to unite their powers. The only problem standing in their way of combining militaries is the nation Poland. Poland stood in the center of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Germany attacked eastern Poland at 1939, September 31. Warsaw then surrendered to the Nazis at 1939, October 5. During the Nazi part of the Attack The Soviet military invaded western Poland. On May 10, 1940 Germany began to build its empire at western Europe starting its assaults on low countries like Dutchland, Belgium and Luxembourg. WWII officially ended when the Japanese Empire finally surrendered to the U.S in September 2,1945.

The battle at Stalingrad
The battle of Stalingrad was fought between the invading forces of Nazi Germany and the
forces of the Soviet Union who were defending the city. The battle was fought from August
1942 to February of 1943. German forces surrounded the city so the Russians were trapped
for several months. When Russian reinforcements arrived, they sorrunded the Germans and
forced them to surrender. This battle ended the German offesive in Russia.
German generals planned to attack the Middle Eastern countries, therefore the Germans would
have acquired the Suez Canal and would have cut off the British oil supply. Hitler ignored his
generals and focused on the Eastern European Empire. Hitler was determined he would invade
the Soviet Union. The Luftwaffe played important roles in the war like the destruction of the Soviet
air force. The Luftwaffe destroyed the largest air force in the world in only two days.
On November 19, 1942 a massive Russian attack surprise overran the Romanian Third army which opened the left flank of the German Sixth Army. A day later another attack destroyed a mixed force composed of Germans and Romanians, that protected the right flank of the German Sixth Army. Four days later Russian assault
groups joined up General Paulus and his army was cut off from air support. 280,000 German troops had been surrounded by the Russians in only a few days. The German Army High Command begged Hitler to allow Paulus to retreat while he still could. The Luftwaffe Chief Herman Goering claimed that he could fly in 500 tons of supplies a day to the surrounded Sixth Army, which would be enough to keep it going. Hitler agreed to this and on November 22, 1942 he ordered Paulus to stay in his position and wait for reinforcements to arrive. General Manstein arrived with reinforcements and told Paulus to join up with him. Paulus declined because he did not get a direct order from Hitler.
Paulus and his army did not get enough supplies per day because of the lack of the Luftwaffe. 100 tons of supplies were delivered per day although they needed over 500 tons.
